Polishment Polish Party — The Sequel

With summer in full swing and a cool pool at my disposal, the decision to have a small polish get-together practically made itself. The first one was such a blast!

I invited a few gals over for an afternoon of sunbathing, cocktail sipping and, of course, fingernail painting.

A you can see, my little fete was filled with fun. Can't wait for the next one!

P.S. To the chagrin of a few at the party but to the delight of MANY, I shook things up with my new cocktail: Kitten Kiss.

A Kitten Kiss is made of the following ingredients:

To make your engine really purr, add 1/4 teaspoon instant espresso powder (may I recommend Medaglia d'Oro). Mix well. I added the espresso directly to the vodka, stirred aggressively with a small spoon and then, when the espresso and vodka were completely blended, I added the chocolate milk. I sprinkled a light dusting of espresso powder on top and speared some fresh chocolate-dipped raspberries for a garnish.

Saucers of milk are for cats, but milk plus some sauce is the cat's MEOW.

Polishment Polish Party

As you guys know, I switch up my manicure once a week. But there are only so many weeks in a year! And there are so many colors to try, so many dots to paint, so many tape strips to apply! I realized I needed either more time... or more hands. So I wrangled up the girls in the office and said, "Hey LADIEZ! We need a Polishment Polish Party. Immediately. I bring the lacquer, you bring the liquor."

And it's happening tonight!

We're going try some new Texture Coats from Nicole by OPI; they're like crackle top coats except, instead of solid color, it's GLITTER. And you know how I feel about glitter. <3

We'll also dabble with some other shades I've been squirreling away and try a few nail art experiments.

Any suggestions? We're up for anything!

Nail Rock — Metallic Gold

Happy New Year, everyone!  I brought in the new year in proper sparkly style, all with the help of my fabulous gold metallic nails!

You may have seen these pics on pinterest and a variety of other websites: Well, I have been dying to find these bad boys, and at a reasonable price.

Luckily, I did just in time for the New Year!

I have to say they are my new fave!

Nail Rock is "designer nail wraps," different from Sally Hansen's Salon Effects, which is actually nail polish.  Nail Rock's nail wraps are not unlike stickers for your nails, but they last a long time.....

and they look fabulous.

Furthermore, you can find them at Nordstrom, which also happens to be my second home.

The best part?

They are only $8 a package, which gets you 16 nail wraps!  Also, they come in a variety of fun colors and designs to choose from!

Each package comes with directions on how to apply the nail wraps, but after doing this in a hotel, with limited supplies and just a few hours prior to the New Year, I have a few tips for you:

(Side note: the gamblers in my party were up- hence the chips.  No comment needed for the glass of champagne.)

* Whether or not you already have polish on, use acetone on your nails just prior to placing the wraps, to make sure that your nails are really dry and have no moisture or oil on them.

* You NEED scissors.  This is not stated on the instructions.  In fact, they suggest you just use a nail file to file off the excess ends of the wraps to meet your nails.  I do not suggest this.  I completed my manicure with the nail file as indicated in the directions, because I did not have any scissors in my hotel room, but I am pretty sure they would have looked approximately five times better had I used scissors.

* Using scissors, cut of the excess wrap close to the tip of your nail.  Then, using a file, push the remaining wrap underneath your nails so your nail tips are completely covered.

* Don't be afraid to stretch these suckers.  If you stretch them out over the end of your nail before you cut off the excess, then you will have a nice, wrinkle free look, which is pertinent for these wraps.  Every blemish can be seen in this dramatic metallic.

 * These wraps will last you a long time.  I was worried to wash my hands, hair, or to take a bath.  But I have successfully done all of those things and the wraps have not budged!

So, basically what I am trying to say is, I LOVE these nail wraps!

I'm sure there will be many more to come.

Le Métier de Beauté — Merry Metallics Set

You know... since most of my friends know that I have an obsession with nail polish, they all seem to think that polish is high priority on my Christmas List.

... And it is. :)

I saw these online today and am resisting the urge. The Urge to Splurge. May I present Le Métier de Beauté "Merry Metallics Set." ("Le métier de beauté translates to "the craft of beauty" en français, ma petite.)

What colors! And what packaging!! I am a sucker for pretty packaging. The site alludes to two sets. Only one is pictured and described in depth. I see some great shades here:

  • Plum Puddin' - rich plum spun with sheer silver
  • Red-E and Waiting - sheer red with metallic gold undertones
  • Tarnished Silver - a moonlit platinum
  • Lame Entertain You - a shimmering copper with silver undertones

There's no need to comment on the awful names. I know, I know. It's bad. Real bad.

It's clear that they are confused about their image. Luxe packaging, clunky names. They need to use more romantic, Francophile names, a la Chanel. But read this...

Each nail lacquer glides on smoothly with a 220-bristle flat blush uniquely designed for easy application. Fortified with strengthening proteins and hydrators, Le Métier de Beauté nail lacquers are highly pigmented for rich, glossy, long-wearing color.

220 bristles, eh? Is that good? We need some context here...

But can we just talk about the little decorative keepsake that comes with this set?

What an over-the-top description... and yet, it leaves me wanting MORE. I would wear it as a necklace, conventions be damned.

Honestly, $32 is totally reasonable. Observe:

  • A keepsake of the Quality, like this hand-chosen leaf? $10 easy.
  • One "mini" bottle of Le Métier de Beauté polish contains 4ml (0.135256091 FL OZ)*
      • Four bottles in a set! That means you get 16ml (0.541024363FL OZ) total
      • One full-size bottle of Le Métier de Beauté polish costs $18 and contains 13ml (0.439582295 FL OZ) total (note: less than the average Essie bottle, which is 13.5ml... OPI is 15ml)
          • So, let's say, based on the full bottle price, that 1ml is worth $1.38.
              • 16ml (total amount of polish you get with this set) is worth $22.08, according to my voodoo math
  • So, $10 keepsake, plus $22.08 worth of nail polish, plus the added convenience of having four colors at your disposal instead of just one... IT ALL EQUALS $32**.
